Festivals

Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of Shraavana month. Traditionally, on this day, sisters tie Raksha, the sacred thread, to their brothers seeking protection. In Sangh, we tie Raksha to each other (a Swayamsevak ties Raksha to another Swayamsevak.) to remind friendship. The Karyawah ties Raksha to dhwaja, seeking protection from our Guru to all Hindus.

Janmaashtami
Janmaashtami is the birthday of Shri krishna. It is on the 8th lunar day after full moon day of Shraavana month. The distinction of Shri Krishna avatar is that He finished His mission of killing all the evil in his very childhood.

Independence Day of India is celebrated on Aug 15th.

Paryushana Parva is a Jain festival celebrated on Aug 28th.

Sri Krishna

Bhagavaan Sri Krishna is born to Mother Devaki and Vasudeva of Mathura. He was brought up in vraja-gokulam of Nanda Maharaj and Mother Yashoda. Sri Krishna is the avatar of Vishnu, who came down in this incarnation to the earth to eliminate evil, and to protect good.

1. He got rid of most of the evil people, like Kamsa and his wicked demons like Bakasura, and Pootana, during his early childhood.

2. He took the side of dharma at every stage of his life, such as supporting and guiding the Pandavas to victory.

3. He reformed several relevant rituals and taught Yoga, which is the basis for all spirituality that we know today. He is known as Jagad Guru.

4. His teachings to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra came to be known as ‘Sreemad Bhagavat geetaa’ (The Holy Geetaa). It is a textbook of different approaches to peaceful and successful living. Hence, he is also called ‘yogeshwara’, the supreme of Yoga.

5. He is a role-model for how to be a good friend, because he played with every one and everyone loved him.
